Betty Wilkins (2005-2006 MSHA team member)
Jennifer Cochran (2005-2006 MSHA team member)
Items discussed:
- Introduction of 2006-07 Statement of Work
- Betty Wilkins explained process for team transition from JTAs to Instruction. Specifically looking at the Pre-shift JTA, the team found that the instruction should be organized by category rather than linearly or sequentially. While there are steps to checking for loose draw rock, the problem may exist at multiple points throughout the mine.
- 2005-06 team pulled out most common/repeated items in JTAs to form prototypes.
- Pre-shift, on-shift, and end-of-shift examinations are similar, with the supervisor developing an end-of-shift report for the next supervisors. Mine supervisors are responsible for the first half of the following shift.
- Former team members did know location of missing surveys
- Jennifer Cochran introduced the idea of asking the trainers at the MSHA Academy to distribute surveys
- Gerald Nicholson was suggested as a helpful contact at Consul
- Team should connect modules to the Title 30 CFR
- Advice for Rutledge visit: He can provide material on Mine Rescue, Mine Emergency, or Foreman Training.
- Academy supports use of NIOSH scenarios, which have been extensively used and tested in Academy situations
- One helpful source may be universities with mining programs:
Michigan Technical University: http://www.mine-safety.mtu.edu/
University of Nebraska (Kearney): http://www.unk.edu/offices/safetycenter/index.php?id=11152
- Next steps:
- Validate prototypes, JTAs and workflow with Mike Rutledge
- Group items in relevant JTAs by category
